Q:Does WOOF have other farms in the Dominican aside from the original one you planned on working with?

graeber

Kind of. There isn’t actually an official WWOOFing program in the DR, but they do list 2 DR farms, which you can access the information for through Latin America Independents. I’ll go into a little more detail in case you aren’t familiar with WWOOF.
WWOOF is just an organization that hooks willing farms up with willing workers, and they do this through an online database of farms. So you can go on their website and read about the farms, check them out in a bunch of different countries, find the type of place you’re interested in going to. Then you “join” the country that you want to WWOOF in (for a nominal fee, of course) and can access the farm’s contact info, contact them, and set up your stay.
The DR doesn’t have an official program and only 2 farms listed, since I checked, and we ended up making our own arrangements. One of the WWOOFing farms was Eden Ranch, which actually charged around $200/week to stay/work at their horse ranch, which looked but beautiful, but we’re looking for a room and board for work kind of deal, not a vacation to pay for. And one of the farms, a family-run coffee farm in Jarabacoa is unreachable at the moment due to construction.
We are going to Rancho Magante, which is going to include helping out at the Mensen Accademy as well as on the farm there. The second place we’re going isn’t affliated with WWOOFing; Jake’s study abroad program went there and we set it up through the program directors. It’s in the center-ish of the island, at Rio Limpio, and it’s an organic agronomy trade school called CREAR. It’s a whole little community so not sure where/what exactly we’ll be working on, but Jake really enjoyed it there.
